Community Impact

Symphony in the Park

Since 2005, the second Sunday of August has been a magical evening in Missoula, as the Missoula Symphony Orchestra presents our gift back to our community – our annual FREE outdoor concert Symphony in the Park. Caras Park, in the heart of downtown Missoula on the banks of the Clark Fork River, fills to capacity each summer as thousands of families flock to enjoy an evening of light classics, pops and movie themes.

Youth Concerts

Each year, thousands of schoolchildren from across Western Montana come to the Dennison Theatre to experience a fun and educational concert performed by the Missoula Symphony Orchestra. These 4th grade students learn about the many instruments in the orchestra while also receiving an introduction to classical music. This collaboration between our organization and area schools is generously sponsored by the Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation.

What an amazing opportunity to view orchestra’s across our great state.

We did our “field trip” to the Symphony yesterday in music, and it was WONDERFUL! My 4th graders were giggling and truly enjoying themselves. Thank you for taking on the extra tasks to make this possible.

Thank you for the wonderful virtual concert. My students enjoyed it very much, especially “Aquarium” I felt it was a very effective way to experience the orchestra.

Engagement & Education

The Missoula Symphony Association is proud to present the Montana Suzuki Institute, a one-week summer institute providing violin and cello instruction to children of all ages, as well as teacher training. For over 30 years, the Montana Suzuki Institute has been held at the University of Montana Music Building. The Suzuki Institute is a place where beginners through advanced musicians can play with some of the best teachers in their field and enjoy some of the best scenery in the country. Enrollment is open to students studying Suzuki violin, viola or cello at all levels. For more information please visit www.mtsuzukistrings.org.

We also present several related events and group classes throughout the year through our Suzuki program. Our Outreach and Education Suzuki programs reach out to our entire community and region. Participants also get the opportunity to perform with the orchestra at Symphony in the Park and Holiday Pops.

When many performing arts organizations throughout the world were forced to shut down, the Missoula Symphony Orchestra & Chorale was able to present a full concert season, thanks to the tremendous support of our patrons and community. Our musicians were able to perform and sing when many could not. THANK YOU!!

Thank you for persevering!

I was privileged to experience an incredibly beautiful moment with my 95-year-old mother as we watched the Missoula Symphony perform Appalachian Spring on our television. We live in Washington and thank you for making this wonderful evening possible.

Thank you for a great season! The last concert in particular was amazing. It was rich with new sounds and deep meaning about the moment we are in. It moved me more than any other performance during the many years I have been listening. Bravo!
