Dance!

Description:

Dance into spring with a vibrant program that will get your heart racing and your feet tapping! We open with John Adams’ The Chairman Dances, a lively foxtrot for orchestra from his groundbreaking opera Nixon in China. This piece is a joyous and rhythmic exploration of movement and dance, capturing the essence of a playful and energetic foxtrot.

Next, we are thrilled to feature British composer Anna Clyne’s Dance for Cello & Orchestra, performed by the acclaimed cellist Amit Peled. This concerto, inspired by a 13th-century Persian poem by Rumi, is a lyrical and emotional journey that explores themes of love, loss, and transformation. Peled's rich, soulful tones bring a deep resonance and beauty to this moving piece.

The Missoula Youth Symphony joins us for Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 1, an energetic and spirited piece that showcases the vibrant rhythms and melodies of Hungarian folk music. This collaboration highlights the talent and enthusiasm of our young musicians, adding an extra layer of excitement to the program.

We close the concert with Tchaikovsky’s dramatic Symphony No. 4, a powerful exploration of fate and destiny. Inspired by Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth is a deeply emotional and dynamic work that delves into the struggles and triumphs of the human spirit. This masterful symphony will leave you breathless and inspired. Don’t miss this exhilarating program that celebrates the joy and passion of dance in music.
