A Gershwin Celebration

Description:

Kick off our season with a spectacular tribute to George Gershwin, one of America's most iconic composers! This celebration marks the 100th anniversary of Gershwin’s jazz-infused masterpiece, Rhapsody in Blue. The piece, with its lively rhythms and haunting melodies, has been a cornerstone of American music since its premiere. We are thrilled to welcome back the world-renowned pianist Jeffrey Biegel, whose electrifying performance will breathe new life into this timeless classic.

Adding to the excitement, Biegel will premiere Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue, a brand-new concerto composed by Peter Boyer. This work, written specifically for Biegel, is part of an ambitious project that includes performances in all 50 states. Missoula is honored to host the Montana premiere, showcasing Boyer’s innovative blend of classical and contemporary elements.

Rounding out the evening is the "Porgy and Bess" Suite, an orchestral arrangement from Gershwin's famed opera. This suite captures the spirit of the American South with its bluesy melodies and vibrant rhythms. It includes beloved songs like "Summertime" and "It Ain't Necessarily So," guaranteed to have you dancing in your seat and tapping your foot all night long. This opening concert is a tribute to Gershwin's genius and a celebration of American music at its finest.
