This epic concert showcases our dynamic guest artists performing the Concerto for Percussion Duo, written by our FIRST Composer-in-Residence, Jonathan Bailey Holland. Mari Yoshinaga and Garrett Arney formed arx duo to bring exciting percussion repertoire to audiences through expansion of new works, education and powerful performances.
Composer Jonathan Bailey Holland will spend a week in Missoula as our first Composer-in-Residence. In addition to composing his concerto for arx duo, Dr. Holland recently was named the Jack G. Buncher Head of the School of Music at Carnegie Mellon University and will work with music composition students at the University of Montana, while in Missoula.
Our magnificent third Masterworks concert also features Pulitzer and Grammy awards-winning composer, Jennifer Higdon, who is known for her beautiful American sound and Higdon’s energetic Fanfare Ritmico opens the concert. The concert finishes in grand style with Mahler’s magnificent First Symphony, “Titan.”
